HISTORY
New York, New York, the melting pot of the world, where there are over 180 different people groups within a 50 mile radius. As the Apostle Paul went into the "big" cities and Jesus commanded us to "disciple all nations", we believe that New York City provides a unique opportunity for Christians to share the gospel and reach the world for Christ. NYC Ministries, Inc. had its original beginnings in the summer of 1994, when a local church in Normal, Illinois, sent 25 college students to the parks of New York City to conduct a religious questionnaire giving them the opportunity to share their faith and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The trip was a success, not just for the kingdom but for those that attended. And thus began an annual mission trip to New York City. By the summer of 2000, trip attendance had grown to over 175 people. Through much prayer and counsel, four people with a desire to see Christians sharing the gospel incorporated NYC Ministries, Inc. on February 21, 2001. They became a 501(c)3 organization in the summer of 2002.*
The trips to NYC continue to grow. All in all over 500 people attend each year from 8 different states and over 35 different churches at different times of the year. These faithful conduct over 5,200 questionnaires in the parks, pray with over 1800 people per day at 12 different prayer stations, hand out over 35,000 tracts and New Testaments in 4 different languages, give the gospel presentation over 4,000 times, and see more than 500 people come to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Each new Christian receives a monthly discipleship bible lesson by mail from the organization; in addition many trip participants keep in contact with each of those that they have met via email and phone calls. As we continue to grow our desire is to fulfill the Great Commission by planting churches in New York City. In the meantime, we have sent a couple to NYC to aid in discipleship and continuing ministries and we also have partnered with bible believing churches in each of the boroughs to help with follow up and provide new Christians with a resource for Christian fellowship.
NYC Ministries, Inc. is excited by what God is doing in the lives of those who receive Christ as well as those who attend this trip. We are continuing to expand and promote this ministry to local churches across the United State s. Our goal is to help local churches across the country in providing an evangelism opportunity to their congregation, many of whom have never attended a mission trip. We do all the planning, organization and training, all you have to do is sign up and be willing to be used of God.
*Since NYC Ministries, Inc. continued to expand beyond its NYC mission trips to add various other ministries, they changed their corporate name in 2006 to Spread Truth Ministries Inc., with NYC Ministries as a division.
